Come join us for a ride through the beautiful red rock canyons of Pole Canyon Ranch in North West Texas. Enjoy the warm hospitality of our hosts Phil and Lynette Barefield.

The ride will be governed by the Rules of NATRC. A saddle is required as well as proper head gear to control the horse. You must supply your own feed, hay buckets, camping gear, etc. Riders must care for their own horse throughout the competition. Shoes or boots are recommended for these trails.

There will be a pot luck dinner Friday night. Bring a dish and share. The local Lions Club will provide a dinner on Saturday for $12. Volunteers will be fed all weekend.

From Dallas S or E: Follow US 287 North about 15 miles west of Childress, turn left on TX 86 in Estelline. Go 30 miles to Turkey, turn right and follow TX86 to Quitaque (about 10 miles) From OKC and points North follow I40 West to Shamrock and turn South on US 83 then right on US287 North in Childress. Continue to Estelline as above. Map and Directions from Quitaque


  • Novice horses must be 4 years and older to compete.
  • Open horses must be 5 years and older to compete.
  • All riders under 18 are required to wear an ASTM/SEI, Snell or approved equal Riding Helmet.
  • Junior Riders will receive a waiver by mail to be signed by both parents. The Secretary will send this to the JR rider. This is to be brought to the ride or returned by mail. Waivers for riders and workers will be signed at ride.
  • Dogs must be on leash. No dogs at meals.
  • Carry ORIGINAL Coggins papers to ride. If crossing state lines, check with your veterinarian for other state requirements

Pens may be used if there are enough for all competitors for $5 per night. You may tie to your trailer or a high line between trailers. You may use your own pens, attached to your trailer if primitive camping. No private pens at electric sites.
